Culinary delights

From simple alpine huts in the mountains to award winning restaurants down in the valley – the Zillertal cuisine enjoys a very special reputation. Traditional Zillertal fare using age old recipes can be found in most restaurants: Cheese soup, pasta in cheese sauce and filled savoury crepes can be enjoyed as well as traditionally roasted meat, cheese and spinach pasta, sweet omelettes and butter milk pancakes.

For those who prefer international cuisine there is a wide range of excellent restaurants in the valley serving a varied choice of gourmet food. Italian, Chinese and French restaurants are just as much at home here as typical „Old Austrian“ establishments. Sample the mouth watering cakes and deserts in one of the many coffee houses or traditional hotels.

 A famous name in Zillertal cuisine is the master chef, Alexander Fankhauser. He was named as Gault Millau Austrian Chef of the Year in 2005, and has since been awarded with 3 „Hauben“ (Austrian award of excellence) and 17 points from Gault Millau, as well as 1 Michelin star.

Try any one of the stylish aprés ski bars with lounge music as well as the gourmet restaurants and you will realise why Zillertal has such a great reputation for looking after its’ guests.
