Sunshine, vitamin D and good vibes: experience Hochzillertal, Hochfügen and Spieljoch in spring

Hello everyone!

I'm on the road again for you, and this time it's all about spring skiing in the Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach, Hochfügen and Spieljoch ski resorts – three places that really shine at the end of the season. The days are getting longer, the sun is shining from its best side – and this is precisely when this very special time in the skiing year begins: now is the time for sunny descents, breakfast on the terrace and lots of enjoyment and lifestyle!

A delightful spring day at the Spieljoch

The Spieljochski resort is a real insider tip in spring for those who love it sunny, cosy and scenic. Above all, the sun terrace at the mountain station invites you to linger. But before you can start enjoying it, you should start early.

My tip: ski the Heiße Kante run first thing in the morning, when the piste has just been freshly prepared. After that, it's worth changing to the other side of the mountain during the morning to catch the sun and benefit from the optimal piste conditions for as long as possible.

For me, Spieljoch is one thing above all: a ski resort for pure enjoyment. It's a bit more relaxed here, the pace is slower, and the panorama is simply fantastic. If you want to soak up the sun in spring, this is the place for you.

I find it particularly fascinating that while relaxing on the sun terrace, you can not only enjoy the mountain panorama, but also watch the planes gliding directly over the ski resort on their way to Innsbruck Airport.

Tip: The Spieljoch ski resort closes for the winter a little earlier than other ski resorts in the Zillertal. Be sure to take advantage of it in March and not miss out on this spring treat. I think: This is something you have to do at least once!

My spring day between Hochzillertal & Hochfügen

If you want to get the most out of your skiing day in spring, you should try the combination of Hochzillertal and Hochfügen – two ski resorts that complement each other perfectly.

The day starts early in the Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach ski region, where the cable car runs from 7:30 am. Those who manage to get out of bed will be rewarded with freshly groomed slopes and quiet descents. On the sunny side, the conditions in the morning are particularly good. Afterwards, you can switch over to Hochfügen, where not only the panorama is impressive, but also numerous fun challenges await you.

My personal highlight: the K2 Disruption Cup (slope no. 3) – here you can measure yourself on a set route. You even get a ski movie at the end as a souvenir. But the speed check on slope no. 10a is also really cool and adds variety to your day of skiing. Just see how much speed you can build up on skis. I ‘only’ managed 59 km/h. And you? ;-)

What I love about both areas: the mix of modern lifestyle huts and traditional places to stop for a bite to eat. Sometimes stylish with lounge music on the terrace, sometimes down-to-earth with Tyrolean dumplings – everyone is sure to find their favourite place here.

Another tip for those who fancy a change from classic piste skiing: in Hochfügen, there are special evenings until March when ski tourers can use the slopes safely and relaxed via their own ascent routes. Those who prefer to be out and about during the day will find well-signposted touring routes where they can discover the winter mountain world at their leisure – a great alternative with a guaranteed experience of nature. You can find more information about the tour routes and the Hochfügen Tour Night here.

Another real experience is the exclusive gondola ride before the start of operations in Hochfügen: in small groups of four to eight people, you can go up the mountain before anyone else. Once at the top, the freshly groomed slope of the Zillertal Shuttle awaits you all the way down to the valley – three kilometres of pure enjoyment, accompanied by the sunrise.

Spring feelings & festival beats

In addition to all the sporting highlights, spring in the Zillertal also has a lot to offer culturally. For example, I was able to report live from the House Music Festival Alpicon – and what can I say? Two days full of chilled beats, exuberant atmosphere and international live acts at five huts on the mountain and three locations in the valley. This mixture of festival vibes and skiing in the sun was an amazing experience for me, and it will be a fixed date in my calendar from now on.

Between the farmers' and Easter markets, small concerts by the brass bands and traditional customs such as the ringing of the bell to mark the end of the season, there is a special atmosphere in the air. It is a time to not only enjoy the snow, but also to consciously perceive the first signs of spring.

For me, skiing in spring in the Zillertal is one thing above all: more relaxed. While the focus in midwinter is still on sports, it becomes more leisurely in spring. You just enjoy the sun, the panorama – and the moment.

My conclusion

Three ski resorts, three days, lots of unforgettable moments. As you can see, spring skiing in the Zillertal has so much to offer. Whether you are out and about in the morning or relaxing on the sun terrace, the Hochzillertal, Hochfügen and Spieljoch ski resorts have plenty to offer in spring.
